Association of Lunar and Planetary Observers Appoints Five Members to New Endowment Fund Board

John Bedsole, CPA, Business Valuation Analyst, and Tax Practitioner with Kalifeh Bedsole Adams in Mobile, AL. Mr. Bedsole received his BS in Commerce and Business Administration in 2002 and an MA in Economics in 2003 from the University of Alabama; and, a master’s degree in accounting in 2006 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has been a member of ALPO for fourteen years. Matthew Benton, CEO of Mentora Education Group, based in Washington, DC, and Istanbul, Turkey; and Director of Foreign Languages ​​at Bahcesehir College in Turkey. Mr. Benton received his BA in History in 2004 from Armstrong Atlantic State University and his MA in Applied Linguistics from Georgia State University in 2009, and has been involved with ALPO since the early 1990s.

Jacqueline ‘Jackie’ Beucher, who is treasurer of the Trust Fund of the Astronomical League, an umbrella organization comprising more than two hundred and forty local amateur astronomy societies across the United States, and vice president of the Missouri chapter of the International Dark Sky Association. Ms. Beucher holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Avila. “For decades, the ALPO has been recognized worldwide for its outstanding contributions to amateur and professional astronomical observation,” said Executive Director Carl Hergenrother. “Each of these appointees brings a unique set of skills and talents to the Association, and as we prepare to celebrate our seventy-fifth anniversary, the creation of this board and the appointment of these five directors allow us to to ensure that the Association is wisely and wisely managed in the future.

Ronald May, a retired business executive with over forty years of experience in marketing and corporate communications, who also served as a board member of the San Jose Museum of Art in the early 2000s Mr. May holds a BA in United States History from California State University, Northridge, and an MBA in Business Administration from Golden Gate University in San Francisco. The Council will review and oversee a wide range of issues, including the digital archiving of more than half a century of technical bulletins, observational reports and studies; examine the viability of a new head office; and establish a long-term administration process for funds flowing in and out of the Association. “It will be a pleasure to work with my distinguished colleagues as we guide the ALPO into a bright future,” said Jackie Beucher, one of the newly appointed Trustees. “I have been a long-time fan of the ALPO, and my involvement will allow me to help develop this essential resource for amateur and professional astronomers for generations to come.”

The Story Continues Larry Hardy, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Prairie Education Research Co-operative, the clinical trials division of Prairie Cardiovascular, and member of the Board of Directors of Prairie Cardiovascular Consultants. Mr. Hardy earned a BS in Molecular Biology from the University of Illinois. Additionally, he is Vice Chairman of Morgan Stanley in Springfield, Illinois.

The Association of Lunar & Planetary Observers, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is an international organization dedicated to the study of the Sun, Moon, planets within and beyond our solar system, asteroids, meteors and comets. The objectives of the Association are to stimulate, coordinate and generally promote the study of these bodies using methods and instruments available within the communities of amateur and professional astronomers.
