Beneficiaries of UCT for assistance

RECIPIENTS of the Unconditional Cash Transfer (UCT) scheme will receive P1,000 – two months out of the P500 per month promised by the outgoing administration – by June 30.

Undersecretary and head of the budget department, Tina Rose Marie Canda, announced on Thursday that distributing the money – two-thirds of a total of P1,500 per beneficiary she declared in March was all that that the government could afford – was assured after the signing of a joint circular.

“We can distribute the first tranche or two months’ worth and then the next tranche will be released under the next administration,” she said during a briefing in Filipino.

The funding requirement for UCT is now 4 billion pesos per month due to the growing number of qualified beneficiaries, Canda continued. She reiterated that the ministry would tap into unused 2021 allocations, government savings and also pause some programs this year.

“[W]We are seeking funds to continue what President Rodrigo Dutere has announced regarding aid to sectors affected by rising fuel prices,” Canda said.

Duterte ordered the Finance Department in March to increase monthly cash aid from 200 to 500 pesos, citing soaring fuel prices caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez 3 then said the government could fund a cash distribution of P500 to the poorest of the poor for up to six months.

Funding, Dominguez said, could come from dividends paid by state-owned and controlled companies, higher collections of value-added tax on fuel, and advance stamp duty payments by fuel manufacturers. cigarettes.
