KARACHI: The government of Sindh has decided to establish an endowment fund for the welfare of journalists in the province and in this regard, a summary will be sent to the chief minister of Sindh.
This was revealed by the Secretary of the Information Department of the Sindh government, Abdul Rasheed Solangi, during his visit to the Karachi Press Club to meet with its officials on Monday.
Solangi revealed that he had asked relevant officials to send a summary to the CM of Sindh for approval of the establishment of an endowment fund for providing financial support to journalists.
Solangi was accompanied by Sindh Director General of Public Relations Ghulam Us Saqlain, Director of Press Information Muhammad Saleem Khan and Director of Administration Akhtar Ali Surhio.
Questions relating to the formation of the media coordination committee, the endowment fund for journalists and financial assistance to journalists were discussed on this occasion. The information secretary thanked the KPC officials for inviting him and his team to the club. “The news service and the journalist community have a unique bond, as the two are essential to each other for better performance,” he said.
Solangi said that on the instructions of the Minister of Information, he visited news houses and interacted with the journalist community for better coordination and elaboration of government views.
“By creating better coordination between the Department of Public Information and the journalist community, the problems of media workers could also be resolved without undue delay,” he observed.
He said his doors are open to media people as they can come to him to find solutions to their problems at any time. Like the news secretary, it was his primary duty to ensure that journalists’ complaints were resolved as quickly as possible.
He instructed the PR DGs and the Director of Press Information to prepare a summary for the establishment of the Endowment Fund for Journalists in consultation with the Karachi Press Club. He asked the relevant officials to draft the terms of reference for the formation of the media coordination committee to resolve media person issues.
